StaffCop: Remote Administration Use Case
Jim, a system administrator, receives complaints about low performance of the workstations in a remote office in a neighboring town. He opens StaffCop, runs the hardware inventory report and sees that the expensive CPU and RAM that were installed last month were replaced with the cheaper analoguestwo days ago on a couple of workstations. Jim takes a business-trip to the remote office for further investigation and while being there he receives a complaint from the main office: one of the empl oyees reports a software problem that has paralyzed his work. Jim opens StaffCop admin console, connects remotely to this employee's workstation, takes control over his keyboard and mouse, and resolves the issues.
Linux terminal capture
If you need to monitor Linux-based workstations it's essential to monitor user activity in terminal applications. StaffCop allows not only to get the input in the text format, but also to view the record of working in terminal as a GIF image which is far more convenient.
Control of a remote desktop
When you are watching remote desktop in real time you can take control over the remote workstation and control it's mouse and keyboard. It can be used in case by system administrators for fixing issues without the necessity of phisical presence at the workstation
Network activity
StaffCop can get info on network connections, with such fitering criteria as IP and ports. This ability can be useful for system administrators in case corporate policy has a specification for using certain ports. FTP connections are tracked with the ability to see the sent/recieved files. Activity in cloud storages (e.g. Google Drive) is monitored.
Usage of protocols
StaffCop tracks traffic sent/recieved throught encrypted https connections. We can see what websites were visited through encrypted https protocol, and if any of them seems suspecious we can see all the web visiting details
FTP connections
With StaffCop you can track FTP connections including info on the IP address, login/pasword pair and the applications used for connection. In case shadow-copying option is enabled StaffCop allows to see all the files sent/receive through FTP.
Wi-Fi connections
StaffCop will show you the Wi-Fi connection with SSID (network name). Wi-Fi networks can be blocked on the basis on white and black lists. It's useful in case employees are allowed to use only corporate networks due to the security issues.
